This was posted on Widowisland and is so worthy of a mention here.
For me I believe we grieve not so much for the one who has gone but for ourselves and our loss of them. I know I do. I grieve that the coming grandchild will not have the benefit of his wisdom and knowledge and love. I grieve that he is not here for me to pamper and for me to be pampered by him. I grieve.
Here are some of my favorite quotes on grief. I hope you find them as uplifting and comforting as I do:
There is no death, only a change of worlds.
- Chief Seattle
Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
- Anonymous
Death is no more than passing from one room into another. But there's a difference for me, you know. Because in that other room I shall be able to see.
--Helen Keller
Death--- the last sleep? No the final awakening.
---Walter Scott
Seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean.
-David Searls
Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.
- Eskimo Proverb
Blessings,
Elaine
